Men’s Basketball travels to Lawrence Tech for lone game this week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles are set to conclude conference action until the new year at Lawrence Tech Saturday for their lone game of the week. Cornerstone has a short week due to exam scheduling, as they will take on the Blue Devils on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Southfield Michigan. The game will have live video/stats/audio all available that can be found at cugoldeneagles.com.

Scouting Lawrence Tech
The Blue Devils have struggled under first year head coach Joshua Pickens, going 1-9, 0-7 WHAC on the year. Lawrence Tech sees just 10 players on their roster with three of those players being freshman. LTU has lost nine straight with their only win coming against Grace College (Ind.) in the second game of the season. The team is led by junior Devonte Myles who averages a team best 17.4 PPG, 7.4 RPG, and 2.27 APG. Junior Ty'rese Searles has been a standout offensively as well, as the only other Blue Devil averaging double-digit scoring at 14.3 PPG.
 
History vs. the Blue Devils
Lawrence Tech men's basketball program is in its sixth year, and have yet to find success against 25 year vet Coach Elders and the Golden Eagles. Coach E has posted a spotless 10-0 record all-time vs. Lawrence Tech, defeating them by an average of 27.6 points per game. Overall, Lawrence Tech is one of two teams Coach Elders has yet to be defeated by in conference play, as he is 10-0 vs. LTU and 2-0 vs. Rochester. 
 
Steigenga repeats as WHAC Player of Week
For the second consecutive week, Kyle Steigenga has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Kyle averaged 23.5 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game this week to earn his 12th career WHAC Player of the Week award. 
 
NABC Team of the Week
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) named Cornerstone the NAIA Team of the Week after moving the win streak to 12 straight. The NABC names a team from every collegiate men's basketball level. The winners for the week of December 4-10 are: Arizona State (NCAA DI), University of Texas - Permian Basin (NCAA DII), Adrian College (NCAA DIII), and Cornerstone (NAIA). 
 
National Statistics
Cornerstone continues to rise as one of the best defenses in the country, ranking second in scoring defense per game (66.2 PPG). CU also ranks top five in defensive rebounds per game (30.1) and total offense rebounds (577). 
 
Vander Sluis Rebounding Prowess
Junior Sam Vander Sluis continues to grow as the dominant big man for the Golden Eagles, as he is playing at a career high level. In a win at Madonna, Vander Sluis pulled down a career high 21 rebounds, putting him just two shy of the school record. Sam currently has tallied the most rebounds in the NAIA with 170 on the season, giving him 713 for his career. Currently Sam Vander Sluis (12.1) and Kyle Steigenga (9.1) rank number one and two respectively in rebounds per game within the conference. 
 
Dominating Defense
The Golden Eagles defense has been suffocating in the 12 game winning streak as they have gone a perfect 12-0 when allowing teams 70 points or less. As a team, the Golden Eagles are holding opponents to 39.9% from the field, and in three of the past five games CU has held the opponent to 36.5% shooting and under.
