Women’s Soccer hosts Rochester and travels to Madonna

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone looks to build off their three game winning streak with a pair of conference matches vs. Rochester and at Madonna. CU will start the week completing a three game home stand vs. Rochester College at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. They will then travel to Madonna on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match. Both matches will have live video and stats available at cugoldeneagles.com.

Scouting Rochester
Rochester begins their first season as a conference competitor and has started the year 3-5-0, 0-1-0 in WHAC play. Most recently the Warriors hosted Lourdes in their conference opener and fell 4-1. Individually RC has had a balance in the scoring column, as Ashlin Taylor leads the team with four goals while four other players have recorded two of their own. Todd Stank is in his ninth season as head coach for Rochester and looks to lead them to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in school history.
 
Scouting Madonna
Madonna has gotten off to a solid start in 2017, posting a 5-2-1 overall record so far this year. Sophomore Nicollette Vultaggio has built off her stellar freshman season where she was named All-Conference Second Team, as she has already surpassed her 2016 goal total with 11 so far this season to lead the conference. Vultaggio was last weeks WHAC Offensive Player of the Week as she scored six goals in two games for the Crusaders. Defensively, MU has one of the best keepers in the conference in junior Julia Stewart who averages just 0.69 goals against this season to go along with a .828 save percentage. 
 
History vs. Opponents
History vs. this weeks opponents has been drastically different. Cornerstone has been dominant against Rochester, holding a 7-1-0 record all-time, as they lost to them for the first time ever in 3-0 in 2016. Against Madonna, CU has a long and unsuccessful history, as they are just 8-21-5 all-time vs. the Crusaders. Cornerstone has lost each of the past four matchups vs. MU, most recently falling 2-0 in Grand Rapids on October 1, 2016.
 
Pair of Collegiate First's
Freshman Phoebe LaCroix and Madissen Kruit both tallied their first collegiate goals on Friday vs. Lawrence Tech in a 2-0 victory. LaCroix and Kruit become the eighth and ninth Golden Eagles to record a goal so far in the 2017 season. Both of these freshman have started all eight games for Cornerstone as well and rank second and third on the team in minutes played.
 
Johnson's Shutout's
Freshman keeper Mikayla Johnson recorded back-to-back shutouts this week, giving her three already this season in eight starts. Johnson is the first freshman keeper to start in net since Allison Snowden did it in 2013. So far this season, Johnson holds a 5-2-0 record in her eight starts with a .794 save percentage. Cornerstone places tied for fourth in the WHAC with three shutouts this season. Third ranked UNOH leads the conference with five already this year.
