GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a long evening of volleyball, Cornerstone was unable to find the win column, dropping both matches on Friday night in five sets. CU opened the day with a loss to IU-South Bend before falling to Grace (Ind.) later in the evening to move to .500 overall at 10-10. The Cornerstone Classic will continue tomorrow with plenty more volleyball action, however CU will play just one match at 3 p.m. against no. 18 Rocky Mountain who also went 0-2 on the day.
Game One – IUSB – 3 CU – 2 (15-25, 28-26, 25-21, 23-25, 7-15)
- Cornerstone looked dominant in set one, getting out to a 14-7 lead that was capped off by a Brooke Nicholson kill.
- CU did not let up, winning the set 25-15 once again with a kill by Brooke Nicholson.
- Set two was a marathon as both teams traded runs, but in the end IUSB pulled out the 28-26 victory behind a pair of kills from Julie Brown and McKenzie Powell.
- Cornerstone once again struggled in set three, as they did not hold a lead after 13-12 and fell 25-21.
- The Golden Eagles would not go down easy however as they responded with a big run after trailing 6-3 early in set four. CU took the set 25-23 on a Bailey Cummings kill that forced things to a fifth.
- The Titans got things going right off the bat in set five scoring the first four points.
- After trailing by as many as seven, CU cut it back to five behind a kill from Olivia Keelean.
- IUSB did not let up though, winning the set 15-7 and the match 3-2.
Game Two – Grace – 3 CU – 3 (25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-9)
- Cornerstone struggled in set one, as the Lancers went on a 7-0 run to lead 11-4 and eventually took the set 25-19.
- Cornerstone trailed 7-2 in set two, but won 15 of the last 17 points capped off by an Alexis Angus kill to win 25-16.
- Set three went back to Grace as neither team could pull away and the Lancers recorded a kill by Makayla Bell to win 25-22.
- Cornerstone started set four on a 6-0 run that saw a pair of Lindsay Barry service aces.
- CU dominated the remainder of set four winning 25-17 on an Alexis Angus kill.
- The first half of the fifth and final set was close as the two teams switched sides at 8-7.
- A 6-0 run by the Lancers in the second half though would doom the Golden Eagles as they once again fell in five sets this time by a score of 15-9.
By the Numbers
- Kayla Clark recorded 101 assists on the day to surpass the 2,000 career assist mark.
- Bailey Cummings and Jackie Stanko each recorded 26 kills on the day to lead the Golden Eagles.
- Alexis Angus and Brooke Nicholson joined Cummings and Stanko as the only other two Golden Eagles to have double-digit kills in both matches.
- CU had 15 service aces on the day.
- Cornerstone hit under .200 as a team in both matches.

Cornerstone concludes the Cornerstone Classic at 3 p.m. tomorrow vs. no. 18 Rocky Mountain.
