GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles ended a long weekend of volleyball with a tough match vs. no. 18 Rocky Mountain and fell 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 23-25. With the loss, Cornerstone falls below .500 on the year with a 10-11 record overall. Cornerstone will start the second half of the conference season at Aquinas on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Game Recap – RMC – 3 CU – 1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23)
- Cornerstone got off to a good start against the number 18 team in the country, scoring four of the first five points behind a pair of kills from Brooke Nicholson and Olivia Keelean.
- Rocky Mountain responded to tie the set at 18 all, but CU then went on a 4-0 run that were all on kills by Bailey Cummings. Cornerstone then closed the set out 25-22 after an attacking error by RMC.
- The Golden Eagles got out by as many as four points in set two, but Rocky Mountain responded with a 6-1 run to take a 14-13 lead.
- RMC held off the Golden Eagles comeback winning 25-23 on a Bailey Cummings service error.
- The Battlin' Bears dominated the third set, leading by eight for much of it to win 27-17 and take a two sets to one lead on the match.
- Alexis Angus recorded a huge kill early in set four to give CU an 11-7 lead.
- Once again though RMC responded with a big run to tie things at 11.
- Neither team could pull away throughout the remainder of the set, but Rocky Mountain would score three of the final four points to win 25-23 and close out the 3-1 match victory.
