GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles honored
Hannah Stearns for the team's final home game on Saturday morning but fell in straight sets to No. 23 Lawrence Tech 25-21, 25-14, 25-23. Cornerstone falls back to .500 in conference play at 8-8 as they are now 11-16 overall. The team will take on UM-Dearborn on Wednesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. to begin the final regular season stretch.
Game Recap – No. 23 LTU – 3 CU – 0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-23)
- In an early morning match vs. Lawrence Tech, Cornerstone honored senior Hannah Stearns before the match and Hannah saw some playing time entering in the first set.
- After trading points early, LTU got out to a 16-9 lead on a Kayla Clark ball handling error.
- Lawrence Tech increased the lead to 10 on a Bailey Cummings service error.
- Alexis Angus went off at the end of set one, recording five consecutive kills to cut the deficit to just three.
- LTU won the set on a Cornerstone error 25-21.
- The Blue Devils scored six consecutive points to open set two.
- Errors killed the Golden Eagles in set two getting down 18-4 and eventually falling 25-14.
- Both teams traded points in set three as Cornerstone hung in keeping the score tied 15-15.
- A Kayla Clark service ace gave Cornerstone their largest lead of the match 22-18 in set three.
- LTU scored six of the last seven points to win 25-23 and sweep Cornerstone to stay undefeated in the WHAC.
