GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone volleyball alum (2018-19)
Kendra Zwart has made the decision to continue her volleyball career oversees after going down as one of the all-time greats in CU program history. Zwart will be continuing her education and her volleyball career at Durham University in northeastern England.
Durham is one of the world's most renown universities, ranking in the top 100 worldwide in both academics and post-graduate athletics. Zwart will play for their women's volleyball team in a league called the BUCS which according to Zwart is a small National Volleyball League that is similar to the NCAA Super 8's. Zwart will have the opportunity to play other top-notch competition across the country of England including professional level talent.
As far as schooling goes, Zwart will be entering the Developmental Psychology program at Durham which is 12-months in duration. When asked about how this opportunity came about, Zwart said she had heard about an organization called PlayOverseas and she decided to apply. The organization sent out her information to three schools in the United Kingdom which were all high level academic and athletic organizations. After much deliberation with her family, friends, and former coaches she made the decision to accept the invitation to Durham University.
Zwart stated, "I am very excited to play overseas and experience a new culture. I knew I wanted to get my master's degree and I still have a passion to keep playing volleyball. When Ryan Campbell (former Cornerstone Head Volleyball Coach) connected me to the PlayOverseas organization, I decided to apply to see what would happen and I received an offer to play at Durham University. I am grateful for my time at CU and for all of my coaches, teammates, and professors that impacted my life on and off the court to make this opportunity possible."
After hardly being recruited out of Jenison High School, Zwart has now been given the opportunity very few get, playing volleyball at such a high level. In her four-year career at Cornerstone, Zwart goes down as one of the all-time greats, ranking third in program history in kills (1606) and blocks (705) as well as earning three NAIA All-American and two WHAC Player of the Year honors.
