GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the third consecutive match, Cornerstone and Northwestern Ohio went to five sets, and once again the Racers got the better of the Golden Eagles winning 25-14, 18-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14. CU is now 5-7 overall and they drop to .500 in conference play at 2-2. The team will finish a three-game home stand with their Night of Nets match vs. UM-Dearborn on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Game Recap – UNOH – 3 CU – 2 (14-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 14-16)
- Cornerstone got off to a slow start as the Racers went on a 9-2 run to take a 10-5 set one lead.
- The Racers went on to win the opening set 25-14, finishing it off with a kill from Erika Angstmann.
- Cornerstone got off to a much better start in set two as they were able to command play and win 25-18. CU went on a 5-0 run to end the set that was capped off by a kill from setter Kayla Clark.
- Set three was the closest of the match, but it was not close early as the Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 run that saw four consecutive kills from Bailey Cummings to go up 11-4.
- UNOH responded however with a 6-0 run of their own to take the set 25-23 and take a 2-1 match lead.
- In set four, Cornerstone scored the first five points behind four kills from Alexis Angus.
- Angus continued to dominate the set as CU hit a game high .364 in the set to win 25-19 and force a set five.
- Just like in set four, Cornerstone scored the first five points to force UNOH into a timeout.
- Out of the timeout, UNOH scored four straight to cut the deficit to 5-4.
- The two teams then traded points going down to the wire. UNOH was able to win the final two points on back-to-back kills from Erika Angstmann to win the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
