Men's Soccer prepares for home opener against Concordia

After falling 3-0 in the season opener last weekend at Lourdes, the Men's Soccer team will return to the pitch this weekend for their home opener against Concordia. The contest is the first of only two home games slated for the fall portion of the 2020-21 season. Concordia is 1-1 on the season with a loss against Lourdes and a win against Rochester. The Cardinals finished in 7th place in the 2020-21 WHAC preseason poll, while Cornerstone finished 12th.

Four players made their Cornerstone debuts against Lourdes: Alan Mendoza, Caleb Griffith, Nate Kaercher and Jason Lugo. Mendoza and Lugo both played the full 90 minutes at their respective positions, while Griffith and Kaercher were second half substitutions for the Golden Eagles. 

 

Home Openers

Soccer Field

Cornerstone is 2-2-1 over the last five years in home openers. Last year, the Golden Eagles battled to a 2-2 draw with Olivet Nazarene. Cornerstone finished the 2019 campaign with a 1-6-1 record on their home field, with the lone victory coming against Michigan-Dearborn. 

History vs. Concordia

The Golden Eagles hold a 6-4 record over the last ten meetings with the Cardinals. Last year's 3-2 overtime loss was one of three overtime losses for Cornerstone in 2019. The last victory for the Golden Eagles in the series came in 2018 in 1-0 fashion.
