Six more student-athletes join 2020-21 cheer team

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head Coach Kristine Parker is excited to announce the addition of six athletes for the 2020-21 cheer season. All six students have begun the school year at Cornerstone and are preparing to cheer at all women's and men's basketball home events in the 2020-21 season. 

Ashley Swanson – Temperance, Mich.
Ashley comes from southeastern Michigan where she attended Toledo Christian High School. During her time there, she earned the MVP award as a junior. 
Ashley is studying elementary education at Cornerstone. 

Most excited for at CU?
"I am most excited to learn new things and to make new friends on the team."

Kayla VanderWeele – Kentwood, Mich.
Kayla is a sophomore at Cornerstone and will be joining the cheer team. Kayla has experience in both dance and gymnastics. 
Kayla is studying cardiac rehab and minoring in intercultural studies. 

Why CU?
"I chose Cornerstone because of the size and the amazing professors and programs."

Holly Kooiker – Jenison, Mich. 
Holly is a sophomore at Cornerstone and will be joining the cheer team while also continuing to participate on the bowling team, which she was a part of last year as well. During her time at Northpointe Christian high school, Holly earned OK Conference Scholar Athlete recognition and was First Team All State for Bowling in 2018-19. 

Holly is studying social work at Cornerstone. 

Most excited for at CU? 
"I am most excited for cheering on my fellow students at Cornerstone at their games. Also, to get to know the girls on the team and bond and grow together in Christ."

Amber Coalter – Kent City, Mich.

Amber comes to Cornerstone from Kent City where she was on the cheer team at Kent City high school. Amber is studying early childhood education at Cornerstone. 

Why CU?
"I chose Cornerstone because of the community. Once I stepped onto campus everyone was so welcoming and warm and it made me feel at home. I'm excited to be on the team!"

Marreona Coe – Grand Rapids, Mich.
Marreona comes to Cornerstone as a transfer student, but is not a stranger to the area, as she attended high school at Lowell. Marreona is studying pre-pharmacy at Cornerstone.

Why did you join the cheer team? 
"I wanted to join the cheer team because it's a way to get to know others on campus, share positivity, and express my love for cheer."

Alexandria Romeo-Schmidt – Hudsonville, Mich.
Alexandria Romeo-Schmidt comes to Cornerstone from nearby Hudsonville, where she was homeschooled and had three years of dual enrollment before becoming a full-time student. Her hobbies include anything to do with nature, music, and most of all getting to know people and growing her relationship with God.

Alexandria will be studying finance at Cornerstone.
