The Defensive End
In the Golden Eagles three games that they have won or tied, they have given up a total of two goals, while in the four losses 15 goals. Last week, CU gave up nine goals against two tough opponents with a 4-0 home loss to (14) Aquinas and a 5-1 road loss at Concordia. Cornerstone is currently allowing 2.32 goals against. In Head Coach
Randy Strawser's 22 years at the helm, CU has never allowed more than two goals per game in a full season.
Without Samantha Sebright
Cornerstone will take on Rochester without one of their three varsity keepers, as
Samantha Sebright played the second half against Concordia last weekend and received a red card for a challenge on a breakaway for the Cardinals. Sebright has played four games so far this season and made 12 saves. Sebright is the first player to receive a red card since
Grace Wiersema for the Golden Eagles in the 2018 season.
Around the WHAC
Through three conference games, four teams remain unbeaten as Madonna, (14) Aquinas, (25) UNOH all sit at 3-0 and Lourdes sits at 2-0-1. Madonna has been a huge surprise this season as they are 9-0 overall, the only team without a loss and they have only given up one goal on the entire year.
History vs. This Week's Opponents
Cornerstone has had a tale of two different histories against this week's opponents, boing 11-1-0 all-time against Rochester and 1-8-0 against UNOH. CU has won four straight against the Warriors with their last loss coming in 2016 and have lost eight straight against the Racers after winning the first ever match in 2013.
Scouting Rochester
Rochester has yet to see a win in the 2021 season, going 0-7 overall and 0-3 in WHAC play. The Warriors have scored just two goals being shutout in five of the seven matches played. RU is coached by second ear Head Coach Jenna Shelton who has heavily recruited the state of Michigan, and is looking to get the Warrors back on the winning track after recording a losing record in each of the last five seasons.
Scouting UNOH
The (25) Racers are constantly in contention for WHAC championships as they sit at 6-3-1 on the year and 3-0-0 in the conference, winning their last four contests. The three UNOH losses all came to teams ranked above them in the NAIA Top 25, with a 2-0 loss to (3) Spring Arbor, 1-0 loss to (15) Grace, and a 3-1 loss to (7) Marian. Fourth year Head Coach Jen Dervarics has a young roster that is very sophomore heavy and she continues to recruit heavily oversees with 20 of their 22 players from another country, and zero players on the roster representing the state of Ohio. Sophomore Ariana Mondiri out of Evry, France is the team's leading goal scorer this season with eight through 10 games.
