GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles look to defend their 2020 WHAC Tournament Title beginning this Wednesday vs. Lourdes at 8 p.m. in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal. CU has qualified for the WHAC Tournament every year since the tournament has been in existence, and they come into the 2021 year as the two seed, opening play vs. the seven seed Lourdes. WHAC Tournament Outlook
After falling to Madonna in the regular season finale, Cornerstone is the two seed entering the 2021 WHAC Tournament. Madonna is the one seed, Indiana Tech is the three, and Aquinas rounds out the top four as the four seed and final host site. The highest remaining seed after Wednesday's competition will host the WHAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals on Friday and Saturday, November 12-13. Madonna plays UM-Dearborn in the opening round, but if they were to lose, Cornerstone would host barring a loss to Lourdes.
Wednesday at Cornerstone
Wednesday in Cornerstone is a full day with some different times than normally scheduled events. CU will host the WHAC regular season opener for women's and men's basketball as the women will play in Mol Arena at 3 p.m., with the men to follow at 5 p.m. The women's volleyball WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal will complete the triple-header at 8 p.m., or an hour after the conclusion of the men's basketball contest.
Ace Queen Walters
The service line has been the story of the Golden Eagles season, and junior outside hitter
Rylie Walters has snuck her way to the top of the NAIA in service aces with 65 to rank first overall. 51 of her 65 have come in conference play which is also best in the nation for conference aces, and she averages 0.55 aces per set. Last week Walters recorded five to just one service error to take over first place in the NAIA.
Keelean Dominating
Junior outside hitter
Olivia Keelean is nearing more milestones and has had a dominant junior season as she is up to a .215 hitting percentage for the year. She has 413 kills this season to lead CU and rank 15
th in the NAIA, and that mark is already more kills than she recorded in her freshman and sophomore seasons combined. Keelean also has 366 digs this season to bring her career total to 953, making her the next closest to a milestone, needing just 47 more to crack 1,000.
