BETTENDORF, Iowa – The Golden Eagles played away from De Witt Field for the first time this season taking on Doane in a neutral site double-header where the team fell 12-4 in game one and 5-4 on a walk-off in game two. Cornerstone held leads in both games, early but the Tigers were able to respond to drop CU to 5-3 on the year. CU will play two more games against Doane back in Bettendorf, Iowa tomorrow with a noon eastern start.
Game One – Doane – 12 Cornerstone - 4
- The offense started out with a bang, as Landon Poll doubled to score Jordan Wenzel and Samuel Bussler tripled to score Poll and give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
- Bussler then scored later in the inning to make it 3-0 after the first half inning.
- In the bottom of the first Doane hit a leadoff triple that later scored on a fielder's choice. Caden Ritsema settled in during his first collegiate start however and kept the damage to just one run making it 3-1 at the end of the first.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Caden Ritsema once again found himself in trouble loading the bases with one out, but he was able to get out of it striking out the next two to keep it 3-1.
- The fourth inning would be the end of the line for Ritsema as Doane scored four to take their first lead of the game 5-3. Ben Cunningham came in to close the door and get out of the inning.
- CU continued to hit triples as Austin Hurt was the next to hit one in the top of the fifth, and he later scored on a Landon Poll single to bring the deficit back to just one run.
- Doane once again found some offense in the bottom of the inning scoring two more runs to make it 7-4.
- In the final two innings the Tigers found five more runs while holding the Golden Eagles scoreless to win game one 12-4.
Game Two – Doane – 5 Cornerstone - 4
- Adam Hotovy started game two on the bump and ran into some early trouble after back-to-back ground rule doubles made it 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
- Doane squeaked one more run across in the inning to take a 2-0 lead after one.
- In both the second and third innings, Cornerstone got runners on base, highlighted by line drives from Grant Young and Eric Bradberry but CU was unable to score as they continued to trail 2-0 at the end of the third inning.
- Doane walked a couple batters in the top of the fifth, which led to CU's first run. Jordan Wenzel was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-1.
- In the top of the sixth, Cornerstone was finally able to get to the Doane pitchers as Isaac Tayes hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Eric Bradberry knocks in two with a single after a long at bat. Cornerstone led 4-2 as Colin Schwartz came to the mound for the bottom of the inning.
- The Tigers threatened in the bottom of the sixth, but Zach Brog came in to close the door and keep the Golden Eagle two run lead after recording a double-play.
- Doane got the better of Brog in the seventh however, scoring two runs to tie the game 4-4.
- Chandler McKinney then came in and pitched for CU looking to get the final out, but was unable to do so as Doane hit a walk-off winner to take game two 5-4.

Cornerstone concludes the four-game set in Iowa with another double-header against Doane starting at noon EST.
