GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior middle-blocker
Alexis Angus has capped off her career with one final award, earning CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team honors after graduating with a 3.94 GPA in Exercise Science at Cornerstone University. The Davison, Michigan native has improved each season and was crucial for the Golden Eagles in the program's first ever outright dual championship, as the team won both the WHAC Regular Season and Tournament Title in 2020.
Over Angus' four-year career, Cornerstone has gone 96-39 overall. Angus has tallied 605 career kills and 258 career blocks while hitting a team best .270 over that span. In the 2019 season, Angus earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, but was not selected to the All-American team. This season Angus has been one of the many Golden Eagles to earn a multitude of honors as she was also an AVCA First Team All-Region athlete and First Team All-WHAC athlete, each being career firsts.
The NAIA Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 NAIA Academic All-America® teams.
Tapigliani was named the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for NAIA volleyball. The São Paulo, Brazil native is the first Spartans volleyball player to ever be named to the Academic All-America® NAIA volleyball team and is one of eight student-athletes to land on this year's first team, which includes a pair of Spartans.
The first team is composed of seven seniors and one sophomore and one repeat performer in Erin Clark of Embry-Riddle University (Ariz.) who was a first team selection in 2019.
