GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head Coach
Kelsey Kooistra and the Cornerstone softball program are winding down the 2021 recruiting class as they have signed three more Michigan natives to the class of 2021. The team will welcome three infielders, with two being primary catchers, to the program as Emma Boonstra, Jasmine Rodriguez, and Moriah Sprague are set to come to Cornerstone this fall.
Emma Boonstra – McBain, Mich.
Emma Boonstra comes to Cornerstone from McBain High School, the same area that Head Coach
Kelsey Kooistra was teaching and coaching at prior to being hired at CU. She is a third baseman and shortstop who helped McBain to two District Titles. She also earned All-Conference and All-District honors individually during her high school career.
Emma is the daughter of Daryl and Dawn Boonstra and plans to major in Exercise Science during her time at Cornerstone.
Why CU?
"I was looking for a college where I could grow in my faith and also get a good education. Cornerstone offers me both. Once I stepped foot on campus, I fell in love!"
Jasmine Rodriguez – Grand Rapids, Mich.
Jasmine Rodriguez comes to Cornerstone as the most local of the three new athletes to join the program as she is a Grand Rapids native who attended The Potter's House High School. She played catcher and shortstop for Potter's House and was a three-sport athlete. The biggest highlight in Jasmine's career was earning the softball Offensive Player of the Year in 2019.
Jasmine is the daughter of Jose and Anne Rodriguez and she plans to major in Pre-Nursing at Cornerstone.
Why CU?
"I chose Cornerstone for the community and the nursing program! I love that CU is a community centered around Christ."
Moriah Sprague – Middleville, Mich.
Moriah Sprague joins Cornerstone from Thornapple Kellog High School in Middleville, Michigan where she was a catcher for the Trojans. Moriah was outstanding behind the plate earning two All-Conference, All-District, and Team Defensive Player of the Year honors. She helped her team to a pair of Conference Titles and one District Title over her four-year career as well.
Moriah is the daughter of Ross and Rojean Sprague and she has yet to decide what she will major in during her time at Cornerstone.
Why CU?
"Both of my parents are Cornerstone alumni. I have always loved hearing about all of the fun they had and the relationships they had made. On top of this, my parents had the opportunity to grow academically and spiritually. I am looking forward to experiencing the same great things."
