Howell, Mich. – Softball sweeps Cleary outscoring the Cougars 22-2 in the doubleheader.
Rylee Stephenson had two hits including a homerun driving in three while
Taylor Zwagerman had four hits on the day and totaled five RBIs.
Kara Sandberg threw five shutout innings while only allowing one hit in game two. The Golden Eagles return home to face Defiance on Friday, April 10th with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 10 Cleary – 2
- The Golden Eagles got the scoring started in the top of the first as Taylor Zwagerman, Kaylee Misialek and Dylan Holme all hit singles to drive in four runs to give Cornerstone an early lead.
- Cornerstone added on in the second on a double off the bat of Sam Timmer that brought Morgan Jenkins into score.
- In the top of the fourth Cornerstone loaded the bases which led to Alayna Meade walking in a run and later in the inning Paige Liddell hit a sac fly to give Cornerstone a 7-0 lead.
- Alayne Meade extended Cornerstone's lead with a two RBI triple in the top of the sixth followed by an error in which she scored to make it a 10-0 game.
- Cleary scored two runs on a double, but the runner was thrown out trying for third to end game one with a win for the Golden Eagles.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 10 Cleary – 0
- Cornerstone continued their momentum into game two as Anna Griffioen led off the game with a double which was followed by a single off the bat of Taylor Zwagerman to bring Griffioen home and give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead.
- In the top of the third the Golden Eagles brought six runs across off singles by Morgan Jenkins and Rylee Stephenson along with a double from Sam Timmer. Another run scored on a ground out to extend Cornerstone's lead to 7-0.
- Cornerstone added to their lead in the top of the fourth with a Taylor Zwagerman double followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Rylee Stephenson to put the Golden Eagles up 10-0.
- The top of the fifth inning saw Cornerstone bring two more runs into score off a sac hit by Morgan Jenkins and a double by Taylor Zwagerman which would secure the run rule victory for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles return home to face Defiance on Friday, April 10th with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
