3/24/2022 12:51:00 PM

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles opened WHAC play at De Witt Field with a bang, sweeping Siena Heights 2-0 and 5-4. Cornerstone will now hit the road for conference play for the first time in 2022 as they travel to UM-Dearborn and Lawrence Tech this weekend. On the year, CU is 10-11, 2-0 WHAC as they look to get above .500 for the first time this season. Young Does It All
Grant Young continues to do it all, as he recorded his third consecutive complete game and another shutout on the mound in the 2-0 win over Siena Heights and hit a two-run bomb in the 5-4 game two victory over Siena Heights. Young is at a program record 21.2 innings without giving up an earned run. He leads the NAIA as the only pitcher without an earned run and over 20 innings pitched and he is 3-0 on the year with opponents hitting .130 against him.

Head Coach Lowitzki
Head Coach Chuck Lowitzki is in his sixth season with the Golden Eagles and he continues to build something special with his program this year. This year, he passed 100 career wins as a Head Coach in the Russ Matt Tournament, and holds a 104-121-1 record overall.

Earlier this Year vs. UM-Dearborn
Cornerstone played UM-Dearborn down in Kissimmee, Florida earlier this year in a non-conference game and earned a 11-7 victory in that game. Michael Foster earned the victory and Austin Hurt began his 8-8 day with a 5-5 mark at the plate against the Wolverines with three RBI and two HR's. Cornerstone will play UM-Dearborn at University of Michigan – Ann Arbor's field on Friday.

Scouting UM-Dearborn
The Wolverines are short-handed as a program in 2022 and it has affected them over the last few weeks losing their last nine games. UMD has just 21 players on their roster after they did not play due to COVID-19 in 2021. Andrew Capone leads the Woverines offensively with a .442 average, six doubles, and two home runs. Pitching has been a huge area of concern for UMD as they have a team ERA of 9.91 with six of their 13 pitchers to see the mound having an ERA above nine.

Scouting Lawrence Tech
The Blue Devils come into this weekend with a 6-13 overall record losing their last three games. LTU has allowed 124 runs in 19 games for a 6.5 runs per game allowed clip. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 6.77, but they are outstanding at earning the strikeout as the staff averages 10.25 K's per nine led by 39 K's in 21.1 innings from junior Dominic Puccetti. Offensively, Nick Olsen is their standout as the sophomore is hitting .456 with eight doubles, 12 RBI, and three home runs this season.
