1/14/2023 6:24:00 PM

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Junior Tatum Townsend earns her first NAIA Nationals appearance with an Auto Standard in the pole vault to highlight a great day of action for CU at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open. Townsend was one of four NAIA Auto Standard performances on the day for the Golden Eagles as they also saw freshman Patrick Adams break an 18-year-old freshman record in the 60m hurdles. Cornerstone continues at Grand Valley next weekend in the Mike Lintz Alumni Meet.

Men's Results:
The men's highlights began in the mile as Luke Pohl cruised to a program fourth best time of 4:14.06 in the mile to win the event and earn yet another NAIA Auto Qualifier in the event.

Freshman Patrick Adams saw his name enter the highlights with an 8.53 time in the 60m hurdles. The mark breaks Josh Beardslee's freshman record set back in 2005 and gets Adam's career off to an outstanding start. Adams finished fourth overall in the event and was the top finishing freshman of all competitors at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open.

Josh DeVries took second in the pole vault, nearly hitting an NAIA National Standard with a best jump of 4.55m.

In throws, Ryan Shinabery and Donnie Hurrle each tied their PR's to finish third and fourth respectively in the weight throw invite.

Women's Results:
Morgan Vargo started things strong in the first meet of 2023 with a provisional standard jump of 5.51m in the long jump as she qualified for finals. Vargo would not earn a better jump in the finals, as 5.51 would go down as her best mark. Freshman Katelynn Dix would debut in the long jump at 5.20m as the coaches are excited to see her growth over the next few months in the event.

Braely Herrema added a personal best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.46. The mark moved her to ninth all-time in program history. Katelynn Dix added a personal best 9.65 in the same event as both athletes would qualify for the finals later in the afternoon.

The pole vault saw two huge highlights, with Tatum Townsend earning her first ever NAIA Nationals Auto Qualifier, clearing 3.52m. She moves to fifth all-time and will join Ashley Verplank at NAIA Nationals for the event. Speaking of VerPlank she too hit an NAIA Auto Standard for the second time this season, improving on last meet's mark with a jump of 3.72m.

Braely Herrema continued a successful day with a new PR in the high jump, clearing 1.62m to move into a tie for eighth all-time in indoor program history.

As more distance events started to get going, freshman Malarie Pinwar took her cross country success into the track season earning an NAIA Auto Standard in her first collegiate 3k. She finished with a time of 9:57.86 to go third all-time in program history and finish sixth in the event. Pinwar was the only athlete within the top nine finishers to not be from Northwestern University out of the Big 10.
