GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head Track & Field Coach Andy Wright is excited to announce a new addition to the cross country and track & field support staff as the familiar face of Mark Tremaine will serve as the team's first ever Chaplain. Tremaine who serves as Cornerstone's Advancement Advisor, and has for many years, has a background in church ministry as well as a strong familiarity with the CU track & field program as he has had his two daughters and a son graduate from the program as well as gained a daughter-in-law and son-in-law from the program. 
 
Tremaine, originally from Kansas, came to Michigan years ago for a position in Youth Ministry at Rives Baptist Church. Through that experience he became familiar with Cornerstone from members of his church and eventually made the move to the university. 
 
"As a program, we really want to stay biblically centered on Christ. AS we have grown it has created challenges for both the team and for our staff. Adding Mark to the mix will allow us to stay anchored in that goal. We are incredibly excited to have him join us as his love for Jesus and this program as been proven," – Andy Wright
 
"I'm grateful and happy to serve this program as chaplain that meant so much to my kids, their friends, and teammates. I feel like my family grew because of their friends and experience on the team well beyond my daughter-in-law and son-in-law. So, I am blessed to be available to this group of student athletes to serve them as a spiritual mentor. Former Coach Wortley always encouraged his athletes to 'Make the program better than you found it.' I hope to accomplish that by gently shepherding these emerging adults as the Good Shepherd leads me." – Mark Tremaine
 
The first and most important step of the Golden Eagle athletics mission statement as Christ Followers. With a program now exceeding 100 athletes among cross country and track & field, Tremaine joins as a direct support to help fulfill that mission. Tremaine meets with the team regularly during practice times throughout the year to walk through specific topics and Biblical principles that tie to the gift God has blessed the student athletes within their sport.
