Softball struggles from the plate as they drop a pair of games

COCOA, Fla. – The Golden Eagles had a hard time at the plate today as they combined for six total hits on the day in their pair of losses. Cornerstone lost their first game of the day 4-0 against St. Mary and then later losing in extra innings to Roosevelt 2-0. Alyssa Braam has continued her good start to the season pitching eight-innings allowing one earned run in the loss to Roosevelt. The Golden Eagles will be right back in action tomorrow morning as they take on Calumet College at 11:30 a.m. and Fort Lauderdale at 4:30 p.m

Game One Highlights – St. Mary – 4 Cornerstone – 0
  • McKenna Glide got the start for the Golden Eagles against St. Mary and got off to a good start stranding the runner on second to get Cornerstone going. The Golden Eagles went down quietly in the bottom of the first.
  • St. Mary started off the second inning with a walk that would later score thanks to a single up the middle to give St. Mary the first run of the game.
  • McKenna Glide has settled in nicely after giving up the one run in the second inning as Cornerstone still has not gotten a hit through the first four innings.
  • Back-to-back singles to start the fifth inning for St. Mary added another run to their tally. An error by the Golden Eagles would later score another as the Golden Eagles found themselves down 3-0 after the top of the fifth inning, scrambling to get their first hit. Sydney Tilma led off the bottom half of the inning with hot shot to third base for the first hit of the day for Cornerstone.
  •  A leadoff single from Abbey Brower got the bottom of the sixth started. Syndey Carr would later have a hit into the gap, but a good defensive play by St. Mary saw Carr get thrown out at second before Brower could score. Keeping Cornerstone off the board.
  • St. Mary would score an insurance run in the top half of the seventh inning as Cornerstone would squander a one-out double by Sydney Tilma to lose game one 4-0.

Game Two Highlights – Roosevelt – 2 Cornerstone – 0
  • Alyssa Braam got the start in game two for the Golden Eagles with a quick 1-2-3 inning to get her defense off the field quick.
  • Morgan Jenkins got the first hit for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the second with an opposite field one-out double as Cornerstone has a runner in scoring position. Roosevelt would get out of the early jam keeping Cornerstone off the board.
  • Alyssa Braam has continued to shut down the offense of Roosevelt as she has cruised through five innings giving her offense a chance to score.
  • Delaney Wilson got Cornerstone's second hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth with two outs but was later stranded on first as Roosevelt and Cornerstone are in a pitching duel.
  • Cornerstone and Roosevelt headed into extras as both teams get a chance to score with a runner starting at second base. After a Roosevelt sacrifice bunt to advance the runner to third, Zuniga for Roosevelt came through with a one-out double to score the first run of the game. She would later score on a groundout as they extend their lead to 2-0 after the top half of the eighth. It was Cornerstone's turn to answer but Roosevelt shut down the bats of the Golden Eagles striking out the side to end the game.
