ADRIAN, Mich. - With blazing heat in the radar, the Golden Eagles left the track and field on fire after a successful day at the Don Kleinow Invitational. Action was highlighted by a school record from
Morgan Vargo and a freshman record from
Patrick Adams. CU will compete again locally on Friday and Saturday of next week at the GVSU Al Owens Invite.
Men's Results
On the men's side, competition opened with the 100m dash.
Seth Stoltz and
Alexander Schmidt snagged the ninth and 10th spot of the meet finishing with a time of 10.99 and 11.02.
Jadyn Courtney finished 13th and moved into the 10th spot of the top ten list with a new personal best of 11.07.
In the men's 110 hurdles,
Carter Sabin saw a new personal best in the prelims with a time of 15.22. He improved the mark again with another personal best with a time of 15.03 which moves him to the second spot on the top ten list. Following that,
Patrick Adams set a new freshman record in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.06 which keeps him at the fourth spot on the top ten list.
Phoenix Velthouse finished with a new 6.63m in long jump moving him to fourth on the all-time list.
In men's pole vault,
Josh DeVries finished in first with a jump of 4.70m, an NAIA provisional standard.
After completing the 10k,
Peter Willcome made a unique bit of history as the first athlete ever at Cornerstone to complete all individual running, throwing, and jumping events that the sport provides.
Women's Results
After making her way to the fifth spot on the CU's top ten list for long jump,
Morgan Vargo topped it this week by breaking the school record in with a PR of 5.84 meters, an NAIA auto standard. This mark breaks Brittany Murray's record set back in 2015.
In the hammer throw,
Kiernan Schaefer moved to the ninth spot on CU's all-time outdoor list with a personal best of 42.54m. Jenna Brueker finished third at the meet with a new personal best of 47.50, moving her into the fifth place on the top ten list.
In women's pole vault,
Ashley Verplank finished third with a jump of 3.85m, another NAIA automatic standard keeping her streak alive of doing so at every event this season.
Tatum Townsend finished 8th in the meet with jump of 3.40m.
Sarah Genzink clocked a huge PR of 58.28 in the 400m in the evening session, keeping her eighth all-time on CU's outdoor list.

Cornerstone competes locally next weekend at the GVSU Al Owens Classic on April 21-22.
