ALLENDALE, MI - With calm, cool weather the Golden Eagles had the opportunity to compete under the sun and in the nicest weather they have seen all season. To start competition off strong,
Ashley Verplank broke her own school record in pole vault and continues her streak of hitting an auto qualifying mark in the event. The day was highlighted by multiple PR's on the sprints and distance side. CU will compete locally next week on Friday and Saturday at the Davenport Invite.
Men's Results:
Brad Holbrook opened the competition in men's high jump with a finish of 1.92, just inches off of his personal best. The jump still tied him for 9th on the all-time list as he finished 5th in the meet.
Colten Covington saw a huge PR on the track during the men's 1500m run after running 3:57.75. His performance moves him to the 8th spot on the all-time list. Covington has battled through a serious injury this season but still finds himself chasing after success.
In the 110 hurdles,
Phoenix Velthouse clocked a PR of 15.09 moves to 5th on the all-time list.
On the sprinting side,
Wesley Brightmon saw an outstanding PR in the men's 100m, Brightmon finished with a time of 11.12, which placed him at 10th out of the entire meet. In the men's 200m,
Jadyn Courtney found himself on the all-time list again at the 4th spot after running a 21.85.
Carter VanderMeer saw a PR in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:53.48. To finish the night, the distance crew found themselves with various PR's from
Jamin Thompson,
Isaiah Jacobs, and
Hunter Richards, as all found themselves breaking 16 minutes for the first time.
Women's Results:
Ashley Verplank saw her fourth consecutive auto qualifier this season in women's pole vault with a jump of 3.87m. With this jump, Verplank claimed 1st place in the meet and set a new outdoor school record, one she set herself last year. Verplank continues to dominate in pole vault and looks to improve her marks.
Katelynn Dix saw a huge PR in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 15.33, claiming 5th in the meet. Her performance today places her 9th on the outdoor all-time list in the event. Dix has seen a new PR every time she has competed in the event and this meet was no different.
The women's 4x400 meter relay ran the fastest time of the season with a time of 4:02.02.
In the women's 5k,
Kiarra Lambert saw her biggest PR yet to finish with a time of 19:33.79. This time was almost 20 seconds better than her previous personal record.
What's Next?
Cornerstone will stay close to home as they travel to the Davenport Invite.
