Track & Field sees a few more standout performances during Last Chance Meet week

PC: Anthony Netti
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Over the last week, Cornerstone traveled all over the Midwest to compete in last chance meets for their final prep for the NAIA National Championships at the end of May hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. CU saw a few provisional marks as well as another school record name change in the men's 110m hurdles to highlight the action. The Golden Eagles will now send all national qualifiers to Marion, Indiana on May 24-26 for their final event of the year.

Men's Results:
Opening the last chance meets was the Grand Valley event on Tuesday. Peyton Tipton went 1:55.95 in the 800m to earn 10thall-time in CU outdoor program history.

Later on Tuesday, Carter Sabin leaped 6.51m in the long jump for a new PR and snuck onto the top 10 list in CU program history.

On Thursday more athletes got a last chance at the Oakland Last Chance Meet. Freshman Phoenix Velthouse earned the highlight of the week at Oakland recapturing his school record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.67. Over the last two weeks, a record that was once held for 22 years was broken by Velthouse, then by Carter Sabin, then by Velthouse again.

The week of last chance meets ended at St. Francis where the men's 4x800 crew of Andrew Adams, Logan Churchill, Peyton Tipton, and Nate Vruggink improved their NAIA provisional standard time with a 7:44.42.

Later in the event, Carter VanderMeer hit a new PR in the steeplechase with a mark of 9:32.69 to move to eighth all-time.

The last highlight was Carter Sabin in the men's 400m hurdles clinching an NAIA provisional standard with a time of 54.35. This was a clear PR and moves him to sixth all-time on CU's outdoor list.

Women's Results:
Jenna Breuker continued her outstanding few weeks stretch on Tuesday at the GVSU Last Chance Meet competing in the hammer, discus and shot put. She hit PRs in all three to improve her NAIA provisional standard in hammer throw at 50.24m and earn her first provisional standard in discus at 42.86m. In shot put she hit 12.99m which was a centimeter short of a third provisional mark.

Madison Haid and Sarah Genzink competed in the 400m at Oakland looking to earn a national qualifying mark. Haid fell short with a 59.73 but did earn a PR to move to ninth all-time in CU program history. Genzink ran a 57.69 in the event but does not improve her PR.
