MARION, Ind. – Day two of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Marion, Indiana was a much lighter day for CU, seeing just three men compete in their respective prelims of the 110m hurdles and the 5,000m. Action was highlighted by
Colten Covington and
Luke Pohl each making the 5,000m finals that will take place tomorrow at 4:55 p.m. CU will close out action tomorrow with those finals as well as
Josh DeVries in the pole vault final, and
Jenna Breuker in the discus final at 1 p.m.
Men's Results:
110m Hurdles PRELIMS
The day began with the true freshman
Phoenix Velthouse getting his first NAIA National Championship experience in the 110m hurdle prelims. He competed in lane nine of the first heat and after a false start caused a delay, he would stumble causing him to finish seventh in his heat with a time of 15.33. The mark would not qualify Velthouse for Friday's final as he took 22
ndoverall.
5,000m PRELIMS
Colten Covington and
Luke Pohl returned to action less than 24 hours after their 10k final, looking to qualify for the 5k finals on Friday afternoon. Covington ran in heat one, while Pohl would run in heat two.
Colten Covington spent time in every position in his race, but at the end of it was able to put himself in qualifying position with an outstanding fight to the finish. He tallied a time of 14:56.34 to earn 15
th overall and make tomorrow's final.
Luke Pohl stayed consistent with the top group for much of his second heat and finished with a time of 14:53.26 to earn eighth overall and qualify as well for tomorrow's final.
