Hard hitting Grand View slugs their way past Baseball in a double header sweep

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Fresh off their day off, baseball was back in action against Grand View. The Vikings flexed their muscles hitting four homers in game one to win 13-8. JC Salinas had three doubles and three RBI to highlight the offense for the Golden Eagles. In game two, Grand View once again scored early and often as they beat Cornerstone 13-4. Gannon Fox hit his first homer of the year, a grand slam to highlight the Golden Eagle offense. Baseball will be right back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. for a double header against Roosevelt.
 
Game Two Highlights – Grand View – 13 Cornerstone - 8
  • With two-outs it the bottom of the first, Grand View comes through with a bloop double to score the first run of the game. The next batter hits one through the teeth of the wind that just falls over the left field fence for a two-run homer. The Vikings lead 3-0 after the first inning.
  • Grand View opened the top of the second walking back-to-back Golden Eagle batters as Grant DeRose laid down a perfect sac bunt to give Cornerstone second and third with one out. Lucas Vega came through swinging at the first pitch with a two RBI single to make it 3-2. Ethan Lajiness brought home another with a single to tie it 3-3 with two outs. Next batter, JC Salinas came through with an opposite field double to bring home two more as the Golden Eagles put up a five spot, now leading 5-3.
  • Just like that in the bottom of the second, Grand View scores another run thanks a to a couple hits in a row to make it 5-4. Cam Keatley would limit the damage, stranding the bases loaded to end the inning.
  • In the bottom of the third with one out, Grand View hits their second homer of the game to tie it 5-5. Three straight hits from the Vikings sees them retake the lead 6-5. Grand View ends the inning scoring two more runs on a single as they lead 8-5 after the third inning.
  • Cam VanPutten has settled in nicely after working a scoreless fourth inning. Grand View continues to lead 8-5 heading into the fifth inning.
  • JC Salinas opens the fifth inning with an opposite field double and Drew Goodman would bring him home with a single up the middle to make it 8-6.
  • After a couple walks and a single from Grand View, they have the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the fifth. One swing of the bat brings home four runs as the Vikings hit a grand slam to make it 12-6 after the end of the fifth.
  • After the first two runners reached base for the Golden Eagles, Ethan Lajiness came through with an RBI groundout to make it 12-7. JC Salinas would follow with his third double of the game to make it 12-8 in the sixth inning.
  • Grand View hits their fourth homer of the game, and the second from Noaln Drill makes it 13-8 heading into the final inning of the game.
  • The Vikings get the best of the Golden Eagles in game one of the double-header, 13-8.
 
Game Two Highlights – Grand View – 13 Cornerstone - 4
  • Grand View strikes first in game two, taking advantage of a two-base Cornerstone error, making it 1-0. The next batter hits a single up the middle to make it 2-0. The Vikings would tack on one more run to take a 3-0 lead after the top of the first.
  • Christian Burgess responds with a nice 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second, finishing it with a strikeout.
  • Grand View loaded the bases in the top of the third with nobody out and scored their first run of the inning on a walk, making it 4-0. Grand View has put a crooked number on the board, after yet another home run to make it 9-0 after the top of the third. Lucas Vega got the first hit of the game for the Golden Eagles leading off the third.
  • The Vikings add on a run in the top of the fourth after a double down the left field line brought home the runner from first, making it 10-0.
  • Gannon Fox clears the bases with a long grand slam for the Golden Eagles, making it 10-4 after the fourth inning.
  • Scott Cavitt and Steve Hoeksema work a clean fifth inning on the mound for Cornerstone. Andrew Eley would get a hit for the Golden Eagles as Grand View leads 10-4 heading into the sixth inning.
  • Grand View hits three straight doubles to tack on three more runs as they now lead 13-4.
  • Mason Leckrone works a quick inning on the mound with a strikeout as the Vikings would go on to beat Cornerstone 13-4.

Cornerstone will be back in action tomorrow, Friday, March 1 as they have a doubleheader against Roosevelt starting at 2 p.m.
