Bats stay quiet as Baseball falls to Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Baseball traveled to Concordia for their first road conference games of the year and came away with two losses. Concordia's pitching shined in both games as the Golden Eagles were held to just seven hits on the day. Mason Leckrone was the bright spot for the pitching staff going the distance in game one, while giving up just two earned runs. Baseball now falls to 2-24 (2-8) on the year as they will remain on the road as they take on Defiance on Wednesday, April 2.
 
Game One Recap: Concordia – 4 Cornerstone – 0
  • Concordia opened the bottom of the second with a triple and double to take a 1-0 lead over the Golden Eagles. One more run would cross the plate on a passed ball to make it 2-0 after the second.
  • Nothing going for the Golden Eagles on offense as they have been held scoreless through the first three inning.
  • Cornerstone's defense hurt them in the bottom of the fourth as two errors helped Concordia score two to extend their lead 4-0 over Cornerstone.
  • Cornerstone opened the sixth with a leadoff walk but would be later stranded on second as Concordia has continued to keep the Golden Eagles off the board.
  • The Golden Eagles only collected three hits as they fall to Concordia game one 4-0.
 
Game Two Recap: Concordia – 14 Cornerstone – 4 F/7
  • Andrew Eley and Matthew Kindley opened the first inning reaching base and Luke Griffith would bring home the first run on a single to make it 1-0. Drew Goodman would add another on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0 after the first.
  • Josiah Stairs has worked around a pair of walks in the second inning to keep the Cardinals off the board.
  • The walks have finally caught up to the Golden Eagles as Concordia put up a three spot in the fourth to take a 3-2 led over Cornerstone.
  • Matthew Kindley would come through with a one-out RBI triple to tie the game at three. Grant DeRose would follow with a sac fly to give Cornerstone a 4-3 lead after the top of the fifth.
  • Concordia would answer right away in the bottom of the fifth with a sac fly of their own to tie the game at four.
  • Free bases have continued to hurt the Golden Eagles as after loading the bases, Concordia would hit a double to make it a 7-4 game. The inning continued for Concordia as they have blown the game open thanks to three more hits on top of walks to make it 12-4.
  • Concordia would score two in the bottom of the seventh to run rule the Golden Eagles 14-4.
 
By the Numbers:
12 – Cornerstone pitchers gave 12 free bases to Concordia in game two
7 – Cornerstone only had seven hits between both games
6 – Mason Leckrone pitched six solid innings giving up two earned runs while striking out three in game one

Baseball remains on the road as they travel to Defiance for matchup on Wednesday, April 2 starting at 1 p.m.
