The Opening Pitch Is Set for the Softball Season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Softball opens up the 2026 season at the NAIA Leadoff Tournament in Rosemont, Ill. where they will take on four different NAIA teams over the three days of competition.

Last Year Recap

The Golden Eagles finished out the 2025 season with an overall record of 36-16 and a WHAC record of 18-6. Women's Softball earned a bid to the NAIA National Tournament in which they fell in close games to #3 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 4-7 and to #RV University of Mobile (Ala.) 3-4. Softball said so long to coach Kelsey Kooistra at the end of the 2025 season and welcomed now head coach Elexia Fuentes. Coach Fuentes stepped up to the helm after serving as the Softball graduate assistant and its JV Coach during the 2025 season. Coach Elexia steps into a team that sees five seniors return, eight juniors, two sophomores, and five new freshmen.

Scouting University of St. Francis (Ill.)

The Fighting Saints had an overall record in 2025 of 20-20 and a conference (CCAC) record of 12-4. St. Francis went 1-2 in the conference tournament and did not see their way to the NAIA National Tournament during the 2025 season. 

Scouting William Penn University (Iowa)

The Statesmen of William Penn University went 29-21 overall in the 2025 season, with a conference record of 13-11 in the Heart of America Conference. Their lone conference tournament contest ended in a 7-4 loss to Mount Mercy University.

Scouting Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.)

The Tigers of Olivet Nazarene had an overall record of 23-19 in the 2025 season, going 7-9 in CCAC play. The Tigers made it into the conference tournament but fell in both contests to Indiana University South Bend 2-1 and St. Francis (Ill.) 4-1.

Scouting Indiana University Southeast

The Grenadiers of IU Southeast had a 2025 overall record of 27-16 and a conference (River States Conference) record of 22-10. The Grenadiers went 1-2 in their conference tournament, falling to Oakland City University 2-8 and Indiana University Columbus 6-8. Their lone win during the tournament was over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College 5-3.
