Softball Falls Shy of Impressive Comeback Against Olivet Nazarene

Rosemont, Ill. – Softball traveled to Rosemont Illinois to take on Olivet Nazarene where they found themselves in an offensive battle early and late in the contest. The 1st inning produced fireworks as it ended 7-6 in favor of the Golden Eagles. Despite a three-run lead entering the 6th inning Cornerstone suffered a flurry of runs that ended the game in defeat as they fell 15-9. The ladies will set their sights on Trinity Christian for a pair of games on Saturday, February 28thstarting at 12:30 p.m. 
 
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 9 Olivet Nazarene – 15
  • The Golden Eagles opened the game on the back foot as they were stunned into a 6-0 deficit after the top of the first inning with pitching changes early. 
  • Morgan Jenkins went to work and found a single up the center to secure the first base of the game for Cornerstone. 
  • The Golden Eagles saw Anna Griffioen knock a single towards the short stop that set up Cornerstone to score their first run of the night. 
  • The leadoff hitters continued to shine with Maddi Miller finding a double into center to set up another Golden Eagle score. 
  • Sam Timmer found the second double of the inning for Cornerstone to drive in a run and make the game 6-3 with Olivet stuck on zero outs. 
  • Alexis Ashbay added another run for the Golden Eagles with a rip into left field as the Cornerstone comeback was in full motion. 
  • The Golden Eagles closed out the first inning with a 7-6 lead with incredible resilience telling the story. 
  • The game came back to reality in the 2nd inning with both defenses stiffening. 
  • Both teams found bases in the third inning, but no damage was done as the game remained at 7-6 headed into the 4th
  • The ladies started well once again in the bottom of the 4th inning putting two more runs on the board thanks to Alexis Ashbay's single which extended the lead to 9-6 headed to the 5th inning. 
  • The Golden Eagles faced loaded bases in the top of the 5th inning but managed to secure three quick outs to get out untouched. 
  • Strong at bats for Cornerstone turned into no runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. 
  • The fireworks came back for the Olivet Nazarene offense as they put together three runs in the top of the 6th to get back on level terms late in the ball game. 
  • This changed all the momentum in the game as they punched home six more runs to overtake the Golden Eagles 15-9 in this offensive powerhouse of a game. 

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles continue on the road for their next double header as they take on Trinity Christian College on Saturday, February 28th starting at 12:30 p.m.
