Melbourne, Fla. – Softball began the day hot in the warm state of Florida with a five-inning game against Bloomfield College where the Golden Eagles won 10-0 over the Bears. Gabby Mecca and Taylor Zwagerman both finished out the contest with three runs each for their respective two hits, as Cornerstone cruised past Bloomfield. The second game of the day ended in a 5-0 victory for the Golden Eagles over the University of St. Francis. Kara Sandberg helped to shut down the Saints' offense with six strikeouts in the contest.
With four games remaining in the Space Coast Games, the Golden Eagles will move forward to another double-day of action. March 13, they will take on Trinity Christian College at 12:15 p.m. and follow it up against Olivet Nazarene University at 4:45 p.m.

Cornerstone made quick work of the Bears in the top of the first inning and followed it up with a bang in the bottom of the first. Anna Griffioen made it home on a passed ball to score the first run for Cornerstone, unearned. Taylor Zwagerman and Gabby Mecca followed suit and advanced home on a single by Kaylee Misialek. The first inning closed out with Cornerstone up 3-0.

Grace Paling got a strikeout in the top of the second and a ground out put Cornerstone back into their batting order. Dylan Holmes doubled to start the bottom of the second, but three quick outs followed for the Bears.

Cornerstone kept the Bears quiet once again in the top of the third and looked to follow it up quickly in the bottom of the inning. Gabby Mecca doubled to get on base, and with Taylor Zwagerman's single, made it home for the fourth run of the day. Dylan Holmes came out swinging with her own double that sent both Kaitlyn Cain and Taylor Zwagerman home to make it 6-0 for Cornerstone. Morgan Jenkins batted Dylan Holmes in to close out the inning for Cornerstone on top 7-0.

Three quick outs, thanks to lock-down infielders by Cornerstone shut down the Bears in the top of the fourth. The Golden Eagles did not let up in the fourth inning, as Gabby Mecca scored on a passed ball, Taylor Zwagerman made it home for a third time, and Kaylee Misialek ran home thanks to a Kaitlyn Cain triple.

Cornerstone saw the game out with a final score of 10-0 over Bloomfield College in a five-inning game.

Cornerstone got it going right away in the first inning thanks to an RBI by Rylee Stephenson that sent Anna Griffioen home. The bottom of the first for St. Francis was quiet, as they ended it with two players left on base and no hits.

The Golden Eagles slowly built their lead, as Dylan Holmes scored off of a single by Anna Griffioen. Cornerstone went up 2-0 in the top of the second.

The third inning for both teams was silent, no hits and only one runner left on base for Cornerstone.

The top of the fourth inning saw Kaylee Misialek and Alexis Ashbay single, but no one reached home as the double play by St. Francis closed out the top of the fourth.

Two strikeouts from Kara Sandberg wrapped up the bottom of the fourth and sent Cornerstone into the top of the fifth. The Golden Eagles got back into the scoring zone, with an RBI by Adriana Sackett that sent Sam Timmer home. With the bases loaded, Kaylee Misialek was walked and Maddi Miller was forced home to make the score 4-0.

Cornerstone's final run came in the top of the sixth, as Morgan Jenkins advanced to third on a passed ball as Alexis Ashbay made it home. The final score was 5-0 for Cornerstone, as one final strikeout from Sandberg helped to close out the contest.
By the Numbers:
3/2 – Gabby Mecca and Taylor Zwagerman both tallied three runs with just two hits in the win over Bloomfield College. Additionally, both players hit doubles in the win over the Bears.
3 – Kaylee Misialek tallied three RBIs over the two games on the day.
5 – Five different Golden Eagles scored in the second contest, Anna Griffioen highlighted the runners with one run, one hit, and one RBI in the contest against the University of St. Francis.
10 – The Golden Eagles saw 10 strikeouts total between the two games on the day. Four of which came from Grace Paling and six from Kara Sandberg.
