Melbourne, Fla. – Softball finished out the Space Coast games with another matchup against Bloomfield College and a game against Florida National University. The first game of the day saw Emily Dawson to her first win from atop of the pitcher's mound, as she tallied six strikeouts and just one earned run for an ERA of 1.8. Three Cornerstone players hit three runs in the contest in Anna Griffioen, Alayna Meade, and Taylor Zwagerman. Cornerstone won 17-1 in the first contest against the Bears. The second game of the day was versus Florida National University, in which five different Golden Eagles scored, four of which made it home two times in the contest. The Golden Eagles took the win in game two 9-1, which made it six wins in-a-row for Cornerstone Softball.
Softball will open up conference play with a doubleheader against Madonna University on March 20, beginning at 3 p.m. The game will be hosted by the Golden Eagles at the Cornerstone Softball Field.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 17 Bloomfield – 1

The Bears were quiet in the top of the first inning, but Cornerstone was a different story. Morgan Jenkins and Anna Griffioen advanced home on an error and scored the first two runs, unearned.

Taylor Zwagerman doubled and sent Alayna Meade home, and then followed it up with a stolen base to advance to third. Kara Postema and Paige Liddell singled and both saw their way home thanks to stolen bases and errors by Bloomfield. Cornerstone was up 6-0 in the bottom of the first, but were not done yet. Alexis Ashbay made it home on a hit by Morgan Jenkins, who followed her teammate Anna Griffioen home to make it 10-0.

The Golden Eagles cleaned up the first inning with two more runs from Alayna Meade, thanks to an error, and Taylor Zwagerman off of a double by Emily Dawson.

Cornerstone allowed no hits for the Bears in the top of the second. The bottom of the second inning saw Cornerstone to their final run of the game. Anna Griffioen was the first to make it home in the inning after Taylor Zwagerman was walked. Kara Postema hit another double that saw Maddi Veersma reach home plate.

The final run of the game for Cornerstone came from a sac-hit by Paige Liddell, as Taylor Zwagerman made it home to make it 17-0 in the second inning.

The remainder of the game saw the Bears of Bloomfield only two more hits, as they managed to pull one run back onto the board. Cornerstone held strong in the top of the fifth with three strikeouts. The Golden Eagles finished it up 17-1 over Bloomfield College.

Morgan Jenkins and Sam Timmer made it on base in the top of the first inning, but were left on base as the score stayed level 0-0.

The Golden Eagles returned to batting order in the top of the second, as a double from Anna Griffioen saw Kaylee Misialek and Andriana Sackett made it home to make it 2-0 for Cornerstone.

The game held steady until the fourth inning, as Cornerstone knocked down two more runs thanks to a Morgan Jenkins single that sent Anna Griffioen and Dylan Homes back home. Cornerstone were up 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Florida National got one on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but Cornerstone struck back in the top of the fifth inning. Dylan Holmes singled and batted in Adriana Sackett. Anna Griffioen reached first on an error by Florida National, as Kaylee Misialek headed home to score the seventh point for the Golden Eagles. Another single from Sam Timmer sent Morgan Jenkins and Anna Griffioen home to tally the ninth run for Cornerstone 9-1.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up the contest in the bottom of the fifth, as Florida National saw the game ended on a fly out to Cornerstone's right fielder.
By the Numbers:
5/1 – Anna Griffioen highlighted the offense on the day with five total runs between the two contests and one RBI in the win over Florida National University.
3/2 – Two players scored three runs and hit two RBIs each in Alayna Meade and Taylor Zwagerman.
6/1.8 – With an ERA of 1.8, Emily Dawson grabbed her first season win as a pitcher, with strikeouts in the five inning win over the Bears of Bloomfield College.
