Lima, Ohio – Softball went to battle with another WHAC opponent this evening taking on the Racers of Northwestern Ohio. Game one was a back-and-forth matchup until the Golden Eagles ran away with a 9-4 win thanks to crucial hitting from
Kaylee Misialek. Game two was the opposite story as the Racers took the lead early and slowly added to it as they stole the game 0-0. Cornerstone will prepare for another doubleheader right away as they travel to Indiana Tech on Saturday, March 28
th starting at 1:00 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 9 UNOH – 4
- Softball kicked off game one with a scoreless first inning after three quick outs told the story for both Cornerstone and host team UNOH.
- Taylor Zwagerman started the 2nd inning with a smooth swing to secure first for the Golden Eagles.
- A pair of well executed at bats led to Kaylee Misialek sending one up the center to drive in two runs for Cornerstone and boost them into a 2-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles also found another run to close the 2nd inning off an unearned run through a Dylan Holmes ground out.
- The game went scoreless for a flurry of innings until the racers reached the bottom of the 5th as they flipped the script causing chaos and scoring four runs to take a 4-3 lead.
- The Golden Eagles responded right away as the ladies found multiple walks reach favorable position to score.
- Paige Liddell sac fly led to the tying run for Cornerstone with all their outs yet to play with.
- Kaylee Misialek and Dylan Holmes both had crucial hits in the top of 6th to cap off the strong inning and push home a 7-4 advantage for the away squad.
- Cornerstone was able to run away with the game in the 7th with two more runs first coming off a Taylor Zwagerman double and some chaos from a Maddi Miller stolen base to take game one 9-4.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 0 UNOH – 0
- Game two started much quicker for the Racers as they punched home an early run to lead 1-0 after the first inning.
- UNOH followed up in the 2nd inning with another run that even forced a pitching change from the Golden Eagles, but Cornerstone managed to hold two runners scoreless despite trailing 2-0 after two.
- Cornerstone did not have the answer for the Racers in the bottom of the 3rd as they had a flurry of singles capped off with a triple see four runs score and UNOH reach a 6-0 advantage.
- Cornerstone finally found their bats in the top of the 5th with Kaitlyn Cain leading off the inning with a double into right center field.
- Dylan Holmes followed up the strong start with a single driving in the Golden Eagles first run of game two.
- Sam Timmer finished the inning with an RBI of her own to cap off the three run inning as they inch closer to the Racers down 6-3.
- UNOH yielded another strong swing with a massive triple that drove in another pair of runs as they looked to find the split against Cornerstone leading 8-3.
- In the top of the 7th inning Cornerstone found two runners in scoring position but an impressive double play by the Racers ended the comeback hope and closed the doubleheader with each squad sharing a win.
