Baseball Bounces Back With Sweep Over Michigan-Dearborn

Livonia, Mich. – Baseball bounced back with a sweep against Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, April 18th. Drew Goodman led the CU offense with six hits along with tallying four RBIs and scoring five times while Grant DeRose recorded three hits and drove in five runs. The Golden Eagles return home to face Madonna in a four game series to conclude the regular season on Friday, April 24th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
 
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Michigan-Dearborn – 2
  • Cornerstone started the scoring in the top of the second as a leadoff triple by Luke Griffith led to a sac fly off the bat of Broedy Dunham which gave CU a 1-0 lead.
  • Steve Hoeksema was dealing on the mound holding the Wolverines scoreless through five innings. 
  • In the top of the sixth Cornerstone added to their lead as Luke Griffith singled to drive in Drew Goodman followed by a Broedy Dunham triple that scored Griffith and gave the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead.
  • Michigan-Dearborn got within one in the bottom of the sixth off a two-run homerun to right center.
  • Mason Leckrone took the mound the seventh and shut the door setting the Wolverines down in order to secure the 3-2 win for CU.  
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 23 Michigan-Dearborn – 2
  • Cornerstone's offense started the game off strong scoring seven runs in the first inning as Luke Griffith drove in two followed by a single from Broedy Dunham to drive in another.
  • Grant DeRose continued the first inning rally with a double that brought Nate Jackson and Luke Griffith into score while a triple off the bat of Michael Ruiz and a single by Andrew Eley brought two more runs into score capping off the seven run inning.
  • The Wolverines answered with two runs in the bottom half as they scored on a wild pitch and a hit batter to make it a 7-2 game.
  • The Golden Eagles added a run in the second with a sac fly by Grant DeRose scored Drew Goodman.
  • Cornerstone had another big inning in the third scoring ten runs as Andrew Meny and Drew Goodman both doubled to drive in a run, followed by three wild pitches bringing three more runs into score. Grant DeRose singled to drive in Nate Jackson, Andrew Meny singled in a run while Drew Goodman hit his second double of the inning to clear the bases and give CU a 18-2 lead.
  • In the fourth, Grant DeRose added another run to the CU lead as he singled to left bringing Broedy Dunham around to score.
  • The Golden Eagles grew their lead in the seventh with singles by Broedy Dunham and JT Ten Eyck along with a fielder's choice and a wild pitch to make a 23-2 CU lead. 
  • Michigan-Dearborn got one on in the bottom half, but Cornerstone shut the door to finish off the sweep taking game two 23-2.

The Golden Eagles return home to face Madonna in a four game series to conclude the regular season on Friday, April 24th with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
