Grand Rapids, Mich. – Baseball falls on wrong end of a sweep on senior day.
Corbin Westerkamp and
Drew Goodman both hit home runs with Westerkamp totaling seven RBIs on the day.
Andrew Meny had four hits on the day while
Michael Ruiz had three. That concludes the 2026 season for the Golden Eagles as they now look ahead to 2027.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 6 Madonna – 11
- Madonna opened the scoring in the top of the second bringing a run in off a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Crusaders added to their lead in the third on another sac fly and a solo homerun to right field making it a 3-0 game.
- Cornerstone got on the board in the bottom half of the inning as Luke Griffth hit an infield single that drove in Andrew Eley followed by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Grant DeRose which brought Steve Hoeksema in to put CU within one.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Andrew Eley singled to drive in Chace Sorenson and in the next at bat, Drew Goodman launched a two-run blast over the left field wall to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game.
- The top of the sixth saw Madonna tied the game at five with singles to drive in two runs.
- Madonna retook the lead in the top of the eighth on a single to left field to go up 6-5.
- With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Andrew Meny doubled to center field to score Steve Hoeksema and tie the game at six.
- The Crusaders scored five in the top of the tenth hitting back-to-back doubles, a single and scoring on a passed ball to take an 11-6 lead.
- Cornerstone was set down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the tenth dropping the third game of the series to Madonna.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 5 Madonna – 9
- The Crusaders struck first in game two scoring two runs on a double and a ground out to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles answered in the bottom half of the first as Corbin Westerkamp blasted a three-run homerun over the left field wall to give CU a 3-2 lead.
- Madonna retook the lead in the third with a leadoff homerun and a bases loaded walk making it a 4-3 game in favor of the Crusaders.
- Cornerstone responded with a single to right field by Corbin Westerkamp who drove in Drew Goodman and a ground out by Grant DeRose brought in another to give the Golden Eagles a 5-4 lead.
- In the top of the fourth Madonna tied the game at five before taking a two-run lead off a bases loaded single to right.
- The Crusaders added to their lead in the sixth with a two-out double down the left field line followed by infield single and an error to give MU a 9-5 lead.
- Cornerstone went down in order in the bottom of the seventh falling to Madonna 9-5 in game four of the series.
