HAMMOND, Ind. – The early season schedule features three nationally ranked teams and Cornerstone was on the losing end of the second one as they fell 81-62 to No. 11 Purdue Calumet. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 1-2 on the season as they now prepare for No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan in their home opener on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Game Flow
Purdue Calumet, winners over No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan on Friday afternoon, came out hot in their second home game in as many days as they raced out to a 23-5 lead after one quarter. The Peregrines ended the quarters on a 15-0 run.
Cornerstone came back strong in the second quarter behind the play of Ellery Mast (SO/Zeeland, Mich.) and Jesse Sheridan (FR/Argyle, Texas) as they outscored Purdue Cal 24-15 to cut the margin in half at the break.
The run continued into the third quarter as CU was within five halfway through but Purdue Calumet closed out CU with five-point quarter wins in each of the final two for the 19-point win.
