DAYTON, Tenn. – Three big innings from the host Lions of Bryan College doomed the Golden Eagles in a doubleheader sweep on opening day. Bryan posted a 6-5 win in the opener before finishing the day with a 10-4 victory in the nightcap. Cornerstone will stay in Tennessee for a second double-header on Saturday when they take on Shawnee State (Ohio).

Game Flow

Game 1 – Cornerstone jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to some fielding errors from the home team. CU got runs from Dalton Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.) and Evan Wagner (SO/Port Huron, Mich.) including an RBI from Tommy Enslen (SR/Middleville, Mich.).

The lead would last for three innings for CU but then a tough fifth awaited them as Bryan plated all six of their runs to take a commanding lead. Cornerstone did battle back and had a chance to tie it in the seventh but the Lions got out of the jam to post the win.

Game 2 – Two more big innings doomed the Golden Eagles in the nightcap after CU took a 1-0 lead after the first on an RBI single from Evan Wagner that scored Tommy Enslen. Bryan then scored five in the second and four more in the third for a 9-1 edge.

CU did get their first homerun of the season off the bat of Ryan Harris (JR/Crystal Lake, Ill.) but it cut the margin to just 9-2 at the time and CU ultimately fell 10-4 as they scored one more run in the final frame.
