Baseball team sweeps Indiana Wesleyan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles returned to action today after having the last 11 days off after their Florida trip.  Cornerstone ran away with the first game scoring 3 runs in consecutive innings and went on to defeat Indiana Wesleyan 10-3 in the first game of the double header.  The Wildcats took the lead a couple of times only to see the Golden Eagles tie it in the bottom half of the inning. The game remained tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 7th.  Cornerstone loaded the bases and Evan Wagner bunted to the pitcher to score Sonny Mastromatteo to give Cornerstone a 4-3 win and a sweep of the Wildcats. 



Game Flow

Game 1 - The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first scoring two runs in the top of the 2nd inning.  Cornerstone responded in the bottom half of the 3rd inning with 3 runs to take a 3-2 lead.  Dillon Reust go it started with an RBI single to bring Zach Bohl home.  Jonny Abbadusky and Sonny Mastromatteo walked to load the bases.  Tommy Enslen then drew a walk to bring Reust home and Jordan Mobley followed with an RBI single to give Cornerstone a 3-2 lead after three innings.  The Golden Eagles put up another three runs in the bottom of the 4thEvan Wagner and Zach Bohl hit consecutive singles to lead off the inning.  Wagner was thrown out at 3rd by the catcher.  Adam Harvey brought Bohl home with a triple to right center to make it 5-2. Jonathan Stewart came into pinch run for Wagner.  Jonny Abbadusky walked and stole second and Stewart scored on the throw.  Dalton Reust then single to center to bring Abbadusky home to make it 6-2.  Indiana Wesleyan got one back in the top of the 5th to make it 6-3.  Cornerstone exploded with four more runs in the bottom of the 6thDillon Reust was hit by pitch and Jonny Abbadusky followed with a single.  Both runners advanced on a Dalton Reust groundout.  They walked Sonny Mastromatteo to load the bases and it backfired as they walked Tommy Enslen next to bring home Reust.  Jordan Mobley picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice and Zach Bohl hit a two run double to make it 10-3 and the Wildcats went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th to end the game.  Cornerstone scored 10 runs on 10 hits and Brandon Willard picked up the win on the mound.

Game 2 – Indiana Wesleyan scored a run in the top of the 1st inning only to be match by Cornerstone in the bottom of the inning.  Jordan Mobley knocked in Jonny Abbaduskey on a fielder's choice to tie the score at 1-1.  The score remained tied until the top of the 5th inning.  The Wildcats scored two runs on an single to make it 3-1.  Cornerstone tied it 3-3 in the 5th inning.  It began with a walk to Abbadusky and Dalton Reust single.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Abbadusky scored on another wild pitch.  Jordan Mobley got another RBI on a SAC bunt to tie the game.  Sonny Mastromatteo and Tommy Enslen hit 1 out singles to put runners on first and second base.  Jordan Mobley drew a walk to load the bases and Evan Wagner bunted to the pitcher to score Mastromatteo to win the game for Cornerstone.

What's Next

Cornerstone will travel down to Ft. Wayne this Friday and Saturday for double headers against Indiana Tech to open WHAC play.  Games begin at 3:30 on Friday and 1:00 on Saturday.
