CLERMONT, Fla. – The softball team played two games today in Florida and came away with a sweep in games against Grace (Ind.) and Judson (Ill.). Caitlyn Hartline went 2-3 with 2 RBI to lead the Golden Eagles to a 5-3 win over Grace College in the first game of the day. Hailey Castillo and Megan Oberst both had 2 hits and an 1 RBI for CU in the 3-0 shutout of Judson. Brooke Leonard pitched a 5-hit shutout in the game against Judson. Cornerstone will play three games tomorrow beginning with Bethel College (Ind.) at 11:00 a.m. They will play Saint Thomas (Fla.) at 1:00 p.m. and Southeastern at 5:00 p.m.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Grace took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning but Cornerstone rallied with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-2 lead. Rachel Bode doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third base on a SAC bunt. Jenna Weightman walked to put runners on first and third. Annie Fila pinch ran for Bode at third base and stole home for the first run. Hailey Castillo followed with a single. Harlie Sherman doubled to plate Weightman and Castillo to give Cornerstone a 3-2 lead. Caitlyn Hartline finished off the inning with a two RBI single to put Cornerstone up 5-2. Rachel Nelson went 4.1 to pick up the win and Brooke Leonard got the save for the Golden Eagles.
Game 2 – Brooke Leonard pitched a complete game 5-hit shutout in the second game against Judson to help the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 win. Hailey Castillo and Megan Oberst both had two hits and one RBI for the Golden Eagles. Logan Myers and Emily Bode also collected two hits each in the game. Alexsandra Szajna had the other RBI for Cornerstone.
