Offense stalls in pair of losses to Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Golden Eagles saw their offense quieted by the Indiana Tech pitching staff as they fell in a pair of games 8-2 and 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne. The two setbacks drop Cornerstone to 8-13 on the year and 1-3 in league action. CU will return to DeWitt Field to host Spring Arbor on Tuesday at 5 p.m.



Game Flow

Game 1 – The opening game saw the Indiana Tech offense take control early and the Warrior pitching shut down the CU offense. Indiana Tech scored two in the first, one in the third, three in the fifth and a single run in each of the sixth and eighth innings for a commanding 8-0 lead.

Cornerstone finally broke through in the top of the ninth when Nick Hill (FR/Holland, Mich.) doubled down the left field line to score Jonathan Stewart (FR/Rockford, Mich.) and Seth Ritsema (FR/Grandville, Mich.).


Game 2 Justin Geerts (JR/Surrey, B.C.) got the ball in the second game and had a strong start going all six innings but suffered the loss by the final of 2-1. Geerts allowed one run in the bottom of the first but then was locked in for the middle frames finishing with five strikeouts.

After the Warriors had a 2-0 lead, Cornerstone was able to cut it in half in the fifth when Dillon eust singled home Zach Bohl (JR/Hudsonville, Mich.) but the Golden Eagles left the bases loaded trailing 2-1. CU also threatened in the sixth and seventh but left four total runners on base in the final two innings.

Offensive Numbers
Tommy Enslen (SR/Middleville, Mich.) – hit in the fifth inning of the second game broke up a no-hitter by IT
Seth Ritsema – came on in game one to post a hit and a run


What's Next
Cornerstone will come back to DeWitt Field on Tuesday for a single 9-inning game vs. Spring Arbor.
