Baseball falls to Point Park and Ohio Dominican

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Cornerstone Baseball team played the first of two games today against 8-1 Point Park (Pa.) and got plenty of hits but couldn't find a way to get them across the plate.  The Golden Eagles got nine hits to Point Park's seven hits but they also committed three errors to help Point Park to a 5-1 win over Cornerstone.  Dillon Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.) led the Golden Eagles with two hit in the game.  Seven other Golden Eagles collected one hit each in the game.  Cornerstone had the lead going into the 9th but surrendered a couple of runs in the bottom of the 9th to lose 4-3 to Ohio Dominican University.  The Golden Eagles drop to 5-10 on the season with the two losses. 



Game Flow

Game 1 - Point Park took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning on two hits and an error.  Justin Geerts (JR/Surrey, B.C.) did work his way out of a jam and stranded three runners to keep Point Park from taking a big lead.  The Pioneers picked up another run in the top of the 4th inning on a hit and an error to go up 3-0.  Point Park greeted new pitcher Aaron Pearson (SR/Manchester, Tenn.) with a couple of hits and two runs in the top of the 5th inning.  The Golden Eagles got their only run of the game in the bottom of the 6th on a Jordan Mobley (SR/Memphis, Tenn.) groundout to first base which brought Tommy Enslen (SR/Middleville, Mich.) home tom make it 5-1.  The Golden Eagles would get a couple of hits in the top of the 7th but they stranded the runners and finished with a 5-1 loss.

Game 2 -  The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning Jonny Abbadusky (SO/Elverson, Pa.) led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a Dillon Reust single to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead.  Cornerstone added two more runs in the top of the 3rd inning on a couple of hits by Tommy Enslen and Sonny Mastromatteo (SR/Ortonville, Mich.) and an error by ODU.  Ohio Dominican scored two of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1 after three innings.  The game remained the same until the bottom of the 9th inning.  The Panthers mounted a 2 out rally with four hits to score two runs to walk away with a 4-3 win over the Golden Eagles.  Sonny Mastromatteo led the Golden Eagles with three hits in the game. 

 

What's Next

The Golden Eagles have finished their games in Florida and will return home to play their next games which are scheduled for March 17th against Indiana Wesleyan at 2:00 p.m.
