GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles returned to WHAC action today against Marygrove and extended their winning streak to four games with an 11-2 and 9-1 sweep of the Mustangs. Zach Bohl (JR/Hudsonville, Mich.) had a perfect day at the plate going 6 for 6 with 4 RBI to lead Cornerstone. Brandon Willard (JR/Sylvan Lake, Mich.) and Jon Knapp (SR/Davison, Mich.) picked up wins on the mound for the Golden Eagles.
Game Flow
Game 1 - The Golden Eagles picked up single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings on RBIs from Tommy Enslen (SR/Middleville, Mich.) and Jonny Abbadusky (SO/Elverson, Pa.). The Mustangs picked up a run in the top of the 3rd inning to make it 2-1 and it stayed that way until the bottom of the 6th inning when Cornerstone exploded for nine runs to go up 11-1. Zach Bohl got the scoring going with an RBI single to right field. Adam Harvey (FR/Antioch, Ill.) kept it going with a 2-RBI double to right-center. Tommy Enslen drew a bases loaded walk for another run. Sonny Mastromatteo (SR/Ortonville, Mich.) singled to right-center for two more RBI. Zach Bolh then complete the scoring with another RBI single to finish the inning. The Mustangs picked up a run in the top of the 7th to keep Marygrove alive because the game would have ended with the 10 run rule and the game went the full 9 innings and Cornerstone won 11-2. Brandon Willard improved to 3-1 with the win.
Game 2 – Dillon Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.) got Cornerstone on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning with an RBI double to make it 1-0. Dalton Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.) opened the 3rd inning with a triple followed by a walk to Tommy Enslen. Enslen advanced to second base on a wild pitch and both runners scored on a Zach Bohl single to right field. Evan Wagner (SO/Port Huron, Mich.) picked up another RBI with a single to left to give Cornerstone a 4-0 lead. The Golden Eagles picked up four more in the 5th inning. Tommy Enslen knocked in the first run with a double to left field. Zach Bohl singled to right to pick up 2 more RBI and Evan Wagner got an RBI single to finish the inning up 8-0. Zach Bohl picked up his 5th RBI of the day in the 5th inning with a single to right field to give Cornerstone a 9-0 lead. The Mustangs got one back in the top of the seventh but Jon Knapp would close out the game with a strike out to pick up his second win of the season. Knapp pitched a 4-hitter for the win and improved to 2-6 on the year.
