GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles couldn't get the bats going today and they were swept by the Crusaders of Madonna. Madonna won the first game 9-3 and blanked the Golden Eagles 7-0 in the second game. Logan Myers and Alexsandra Szajna recorded the only RBI at the plate for Cornerstone. Myers hit a double and Szajna hit a solo homer for the runs. Cornerstone drops to 14-8 overall and 2-4 in the WHAC.
Game Flow
Game 1 – The Golden Eagles gave up single runs in both the 1st and 3rd innings to go down 2-0. Harlie Sherman led off with a single and scored on a Logan Myers double to cut the lead in half (2-1) in the top of the 4th inning. The Crusaders widened the gap right back in the bottom of the 4th scoring three runs on five hits.
Madonna made it 7-1 with two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Hailey Castillo singled and advanced to second base on an error and ending up scoring on a strike out and throwing error to make it 7-2. Madonna picked up two more in the bottom of the 6th inning to go up 9-2. Cornerstone scored one more in the top of the 7th on an Alexsandra Szajna solo homer but that is all the Golden Eagles would get and the game ended with a 9-3 loss.
Game 2 – Cornerstone only had four hits in the second game and only gave up seven hits but the Crusaders made the most of those hits scoring seven runs with those hits as they went on to blank the Golden Eagles 7-0 in game 2. Jenna Weightman had 2 of Cornerstone's 4 hits in the game. The Golden Eagles dropped to 14-8 overall and 2-4 in the WHAC.
What's Next
Cornerstone will return to action on Wednesday when they travel over to Davenport. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
