GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Cornerstone baseball team played their highest ranked opponent in school history today and the No. 2 Panthers of Davenport came out strong as they posted an 11-1 win in game one and 10-4 victory in the nightcap. The two setbacks end a 6-game winning streak for the Golden Eagles as they fall to 16-25 on the year and 7-15 in league play. CU will welcome in Concordia for a 4-game series on Friday and Saturday.
Game Flow
Game 1 – One big inning doomed the Golden Eagles in the opener as Davenport took a 2-0 lead and made it 9-0 with a 7-spot in the fifth inning. The Panthers added two more in the sixth for all the runs they needed to post the 11-1 mercy in 7-innings.
Cornerstone got their lone run in the bottom half of the 5th when Jon Stewart (FR/Rockford, Mich.) posted his second infield hit of the game and was brought home on a ball put in play by Dalton Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.).
Game 2 – After falling behind 3-0 in the first two at-bats for Davenport, Cornerstone came roaring back with three of their own in the bottom of the second. Aaron Pearson (SR/Manchester, Tenn.) got the scoring started with a homerun to left field and then CU got RBI singles by Adam Harvey (FR/Antioch, Ill.) and Jonny Abbadusky (SO/Elverson, Pa.).
The big inning then doomed the Golden Eagles again as DU plated six runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 9-3 lead. Cornerstone did manage to get one more back in the 5th on a Tommy Enslen (SR/Middleville, Mich.) RBI single that scored Abbadusky.

Offensive Numbers
Aaron Pearson went 2-4 in the nightcap helping his own cause on the mound with his first HR of the season
Cornerstone got all four of their runs in the second game from different players
Jon Stewart was the lone Golden Eagle with more than a single hit in the first game
CU got an RBI in game two from Abbadusky, Harvey, Pearson and Enslen
What's Next
Cornerstone will host Concordia University on Friday (4pm) and Saturday (2pm) in four WHAC matchups.
