ADRIAN, Mich. – The Golden Eagles made the long trip down to Adrian after their home double header with Aquinas yesterday and they came away with a split with the Saints.  Siena Heights shut out the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-0 in game one but Cornerstone bounced back in game two to defeat the Saints 4-1 to earn a split on the day. CU will host three consecutive doubleheaders Monday through Wednesday beginning with Hope.

Game Flow

Game 1 – The Saints scored a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.  They scored two runs in the second and single runs in both the 4th and 5th innings to take a 5-0 lead.  Seniors Jenna Weightman and Ashley Niedermayer led the Golden Eagles with 2 hits each but Cornerstone stranded 8 runners in the game and they lost 5-0.

Game 2 – The Golden Eagles got it going early in the second game.  Hailey Castillo singled and scored on a Logan Myers double to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play.  The same two players produced the next run in the 3rd inning.  Castillo singled and advanced on a pass ball.  Harlie Sherman hit a SAC bunt to advance Castillo to third and Castillo scored on a Logan Myers groundout to put CU up 2-0.  Alexsandra Szajna led off with a walk in the top of the 4th inning and went to third on an error.

Abby MacArthur hit a SAC fly to score the first run of the inning.  Ashley Niedermayer followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0.  The Saints picked up a run in the bottom of the 5th inning but that would be all of the scoring for the game as Cornerstone won 4-1 in game 2 to earn a split on the day.  Cornerstone improved to 16-12 overall and 4-8 in the WHAC.
