SYLVANIA, Ohio. – The offense came alive for the Golden Eagle baseball team on Friday afternoon as they accounted for 19 runs on 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Lourdes University. The pair of wins lift Cornerstone to 22-27 on the year as they have now won 12 of their last 16 games. The two teams will play another DH on Saturday with the start time bumped up to 11 a.m.

Game Flow

Game 1 – The scoring came early and often for the Golden Eagles as they plated five runs in the opening frame all on five hits. Evan Wagner (SO/Port Huron, Mich.), Zach Bohl (JR/Hudsonville, Mich.), Dalton Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.), Jon Stewart (FR/Rockford, Mich.) and Jonny Abbadusky (SO/Elverson, Pa.) all collected an RBI to help CU build a large lead.

The scoring quieted down until Lourdes scored one in fourth only to see CU respond with runs in each of the fifth through ninth innings. Jacob Klemme (JR/Plymouth, Wis.) highlighted the power for the Golden Eagles as he picked up his first long ball of the season with a pinch-hit home run in the ninth to finish the Golden Eagle scoring.

The offense backed the third straight impressive start on the mound from a CU pitcher as Brandon Willard (JR/Sylvan Lake, Mich.) went 8.0 innings while allowing just three runs on six hits, while striking out seven.

Game 2 – Sophomore Jonny Abbadusky got the scoring started early as the speedster flashed some power with his first career homerun to lead the game off. Lourdes tied the game with a single run of their own in the bottom half and the back and forth scoring continued when Dalton Reust singled home Zach Bohl in the second.

The Gray Wolves continued the see-saw battle with a tying run in the third but CU took the lead for good in the fifth when Abbadusky picked up his fifth RBI of the day that scored Jon Stewart on a double and then he was brought home on a 2-run home run from Tommy Enslen (SR/Middleville, Mich.) two batters later. Lourdes did threaten late but the pitching of CU starter Jon Knapp (SR/Davison, Mich.) was too strong.
