SYLVANIA, Ohio. – After falling in a heartbreaking 5-4 decision in 13 innings to open the day, Cornerstone got a gem from junior Justin Geerts (JR/Surrey, B.C.) to take the nightcap 3-0 and split the doubleheader at Lourdes. The 1-1 day leaves the Golden Eagles at 23-28 on the year and 14-18 in league play. CU will finish the regular season with a 4-game series at Siena Heights on Thursday and Friday.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Cornerstone looked as if they would make it three in a row over Lourdes as they controlled the play behind the pitching of Aaron Pearson (SR/Manchester, Tenn.) all until the final out of the ninth inning as the Gray Wolves scored the game-tying run to force extras. LU then posted the 1-run win with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning.
CU had gotten the lead on RBI singles from Tommy Enslen (SR/Middleville, Mich.), Jonny Abbadusky (SO/Elverson, Pa.) and Sonny Mastromatteo (SR/Ortonville, Mich.) as well as an RBI ground-out from Dillon Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.). After building a 4-1 lead, CU was unable to hold on to it as LU chipped away with two runs in the seventh and the game-tying one in the ninth.
Game 2 – Needing a solid game to finish off the series win, junior Justin Geerts came up huge with a complete game shutout to lift the Golden Eagles to the 3-0 win. The right-hander allowed just two hits whiling striking out four on the day to pick up his second win of the season.
At the plate, Cornerstone scored two runs in the fifth on a Dalton Reust (SR/Grand Ledge, Mich.) double and Jon Stewart (FR/Rockford, Mich.) single and then added a single run in the seventh when Jonny Abbadusky singled home Stewart.

Cornerstone will host Siena Heights on Thursday and Friday at DeWitt Field. Game time Thursday is set for 5 p.m. and Friday at 3 p.m.
