DAYTON, Tenn. – Cornerstone fell short on two potential comebacks as they opened the spring season at Bryan College on Friday afternoon. The 0-2 start to the spring brings Cornerstones overall record to 0-4 as they look to get their first win tomorrow when they face the Lions again for another double header beginning at 1 p.m.

Game Flow

Game 1 – The Golden Eagles got off to a slow offensive start as Bryan got off to a 6-0 lead. Cornerstone bounced back with four runs in the eighth led by a five hit spurt leading to the first RBI of the spring off the bat of Joe Corsten (FR/Howell, Mich.) when he doubled to score Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.). The RBI's continued off of two singles from Davis Martin (SR/Powell, Ohio.) and Aaron Krupansky (FR/Hartland, Mich.) cutting into the Lions lead to 6-4.

Cornerstone gave up one more run in the bottom of the eighth resulting in a 7-4 final. Starting pitcher Brandon Willard (SR/Sylvan Lake, Mich.) went 5.2 innings giving up seven hits, and three earned runs to go with five strikeouts.

Game 2 – In game two, starter Justin Geerts (SR/Surrey, B.C.) got off to a slow start giving up two runs as he walked three batters and left after pitching just 0.2 innings. Clay Keltner (FR/Highland, Ind.) came in to pitch the majority of the seven-inning game as he went 4.0 innings giving up three hits and three runs.

Offensively, CU came back from two early deficits as a Seth Reigner (JR/Birdsboro, Pa.) single in the fourth tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning and Brandon Hepp (FR/Fresno, Calif.) scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning. CU could not overcome three sixth inning errors that led to a seven-run outburst from Bryan. The final resulted in a 12-5 loss for the Golden Eagles as Zach Coel took the loss on the mound.
