DAYTON, Tenn. – Cornerstone was swept in a four game series at Bryan College as they fell 10-5 and 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Junior Ben Sheckler (JR/Sparta, Mich.) pitched the second game and threw a gem allowing just one hit but an error on a pickoff throw allowed the only run to score. CU is now 0-6 on the season and they won't resume play until March 5 when they head to Florida for spring break.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Kyle Marburger (SR/Peru, Ind.) pitched for the Golden Eagles in game one and got off to a slow start, as he gave up three runs in the first inning. CU bounced back in the second inning with a two run bomb off the bat of Jacob Klemme (SR/Plymouth, Wis.) to bring the score to 3-2. Cornerstone then managed to tie the game in the third with a Brady Volmering (SO/Harbor Beach, Mich.) single that scored Aaron Krupansky (FR/Hartland, Mich.).
Marburger and the bullpen could not keep the game tied though as Bryan scored five unanswered runs in the fourth through six inning. The only other scoring for CU came off a Jonny Abbadusky (JR/Elverson, Pa.) two run homer in the eighth that led to a final of 10-5.
Game 2 – A pitching duel was the story of game two as Ben Sheckler pitched a complete game one hitter in a 1-0 loss. Cornerstone could only muster up two hits off the opposing pitcher Fransisco Colin as Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.) doubled in the second and Volmering singled off a bunt in the fourth.
The only run scored in the fifth after a failed pick off throw by Sheckler that scored the Bryan runner from first base. Sheckler finished with six strikeouts, three walks, and no earned runs.
