LEESBURG, Fla. – The Golden Eagles went down early against St. Thomas but rallied to tie the game at 6-6 after four innings but St. Thomas scored 8 runs in the top of the fifth inning to go up 14-6 and Cornerstone was unable to score in the bottom half of the inning so the game was ended after five innings by the mercy rule. Cornerstone scored first against Keiser but went down 4-2 after three innings of play but rallied with 7 runs in the last two innings and went on to defeat Keiser 9-4 to salvage a split on the day.
Game Flow
Game 1 – St. Thomas (Fla.) scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning and three runs on three hits in the top of the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Elizabeth Albaugh led off the bottom of the second with a single. Annie Fila came in to pinch run and scored on a Rachel Bode double to make it 5-1. The Golden Eagles tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third on three hits and four runs. Mackenzie Vallad and Logan Myers had RBI hits for Cornerstone. St. Thomas scored another run in the fourth and Cornerstone responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning on Jessica Wright RBI single. St. Thomas exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth which ended the game after five innings.
Game 2 – Cornerstone jumped out to a lead over Keiser (Fla.) in the top of the first inning. Rachel Bode hit an RBI double to put the Golden Eagles on the board. Keiser took the lead in the second inning with two runs. Mackenzie Vallad tied the game at 2-2 with a solo homer in the top of the second inning but Keiser reclaimed the lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-2. The game remained 4-2 until the top of the sixth when Logan Myers hit a 3-run shot to put Cornerstone up 5-4. The Golden Eagles dialed up a couple more HR's in the top of the seventh to blow open the game. Harlie Sherman led off with a solo shot and Rachel Bode hit a 3-run shot to put the Golden Eagles up 9-4. Keiser got one back in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game at 9-5.
