Baseball swept on road by crosstown foe Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone got a quick start in the opener but the Davenport offense was too much to overcome as the Golden Eagles fell in both games of the doubleheader at No. 22 Davenport. The pair of losses drops CU to 7-18 on the year as they will return to action on Friday when they open a 4-game series against Indiana Tech at DeWitt Field.

Game Flow
Game 1 – Cornerstone got off to a strong start in the opening inning when Jacob Klemme (SR/Plymouth, Wis.) singled home Zach Bohl (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) who doubled earlier in the frame. After DU posted three runs of their own in the bottom half, CU came right back with a homerun off the bat of Jonny Abbadusky (JR/Elverson, Pa.) and a Davis Martin (SR/Powell, Ohio.) run off a Panther error to tie the game at 3-3.

Unfortunately, that would be the last scoring for the Golden Eagles as the Panther bats erupted over the middle innings, scoring four in the bottom of the second, five in the fourth and three in the fifth to ultimately post a mercy run rule win of 15-3.

Game 2 – Davenport got off to the fast start in the nightcap as the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first and added two more before Cornerstone got on the board thanks to some free passes and an Aaron Krupansky (FR/Hartland, Mich.) RBI ground-out that scored Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.).

The Panthers would add two more to make it 8-1 before inclement weather forced the game to be called in the top of the sixth inning with DU leading 8-1.

The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday and Saturday when they play host to Indiana Tech in a 4-game WHAC series. First pitch on Friday at DeWitt Field is set for 2 p.m.
