LEESBURG, Fla. – Cornerstone fell behind in both games on Monday but rallied to win the opener against Trinity International before falling to Spring Arbor. CU won the first game 8-2 and fell in the second 2-1. The split leaves Cornerstone at 2-2 on the season as they will resume play on Tuesday at 11 a.m. against Marian (Ind.).
Game Flow
Game 1 – Cornerstone got off to a slow start in the opener against Trinity International as the Trojans posted two runs in the bottom of the first on a 2-run homerun. That would be all the scoring for TIU though as Whitney Denton settled in and Rachel Younts came on in relief to help CU post the win.
The bats came alive in their third game of the trip as CU posted 13 hits and three of those came in four-run fifth inning that was finished off by a grand slam off the bat of Elizabeth Albaugh. The junior connected on a pair of deep homeruns in the game to help CU win 8-2.
Game 2 – The Cougars struck first with two unearned runs in the top of the second inning but the Golden Eagle responded with a run of their own in the third on an RBI single from Mackenzie Vallad. The RBI came right after back to back singles from Harlie Sherman and Logan Myers.
Base-running errors doomed some serious scoring threats for the Golden Eagles in the middle innings and it came down to the final at-bat for CU to post a rally. After a 1-out single from Caitlyn Hartline gave the Golden Eagles some momentum, the game abruptly ended on a 6-3 double play after a hard line out.

What's Next
Cornerstone will continue their two-games-a-day trip on Tuesday with an 11 a.m matchup with No. 19 Marian (Ind. followed by a 1 p.m. contest vs. Viterbo (Wis.).
