LEESBURG, Fla. – Cornerstone faced No. 19 Marian University in their first game of the day and lost in a 5-0 shutout and then the Golden Eagles took an early lead against Viterbo but gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to lose 5-4.  Cornerstone  will have tomorrow off and will return to action on Thursday when they face Purdue Calumet (Ill.) and No. 10 St. Xavier (Ill.).

Game Flow Game 1 – The nationally ranked Knights from Marian came out strong but despite putting numerous runners on base in the first few innings, sophomore Brooke Leonard (SO/Zeeland, Mich.) was able to limit the damage inside the circle and kept MU to just two runs after four innings. Marian then tallied two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead. The bats for Cornerstone started quiet as they did not get their first hit until the fourth inning as Mackenzie Vallad (FR/Rockford, Mich.) had one of her two hits on the day but she was stranded at second base. Vallad and Alex Szajna were the lone Golden Eagles to tally hits in the game as Marian won 5-0.

Game Flow Game 2 – The Golden Eagles started fast scoring a couple of runs in the top of the first with only a Harlie Sherman (SR/Centreville, Mich.) lead off hit and a couple of Viterbo errors. Sherman hit a solo shot in the top of the second to give Cornerstone a 3-0 lead. Mackenzie Vallad led of the fourth with a double and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Viterbo scored single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 5-4 win over the Golden Eagles.
